The best four advance; the first place is the tournament champion and the last place is relegated to Series A2.
In case of equal scores, the tiebreaker criteria are:1) more victories;2) better goal difference;3) more pro goals;4) direct confrontation (between two clubs);5) less reds and yellows;6) draw.Semifinals and Finals are played in the knockout system in round-trip games, as well as the Taça Rio, a consolation tournament between 5th and 8th in the First phase.
In the Semifinal, in case of equality in the score and, subsequently, in the goal difference of the confrontation, the team with the highest score in the Guanabara Cup advances.
In the Final, in case of equality in points and goal difference in the match, the cup is decided on penalties.
